Ever shouted at the TV when a character in your favourite soap does something you disagree with? Or wished you could rewrite the storyline to change the ending? Get Over It! will give people the chance to do exactly that - in real life.
High on the success of The Thing Is…, Take Art will tour Get Over It! to venues across Somerset between 18 and 29 November 2013. An interactive workshop and performance will explore the stigma, prejudice and ignorance surrounding mental health that people encounter, particularly in the workplace and with their families.
Get Over It! is like a theatrical game in which a problem is acted out with no satisfactory resolution. The audience is then invited to suggest, and try out, alternative solutions that could lead to a better outcome. It is an extremely effective way of helping people to develop coping strategies for the tough issues they face in daily life.
Directed by Mark Helyar, Get Over It! will be performed by a cast of four actors, Karen Sheehan, Angela Laverick, Anna Groves and Duncan Taylor, who, between them, have considerable experience in this area of work.
Many thanks to everyone who’s come to see us over the last week or so, joined in the games, offered incisive advice to help Frankie and given invaluable feedback about the workshop and performance. This includes:
