Stimulating Women!

Somerset Performing Arts Diversity Forum

How can we change the gender politics of the Somerset arts scene? Where are our role models for young women? An afternoon of provocations, conversations and debate about ideas that matter to women in the arts. Men welcome too!

Speakers include:

  • Emily Souter Johnson, Framework Producer at the Bike Shed TheatreWhat are the challenges to finding pathways into producing the performing arts?
  • Vanessa Lefrancois, Artistic Director at the Brewhouse Theatre Is the lack of female Cultural Leaders a myth or reality?
  • Kira Lewis, Member of Youth ParliamentWhere are the role models for young women?
  • Fodo Higginson, Musician and Branch Officer of Somerset Women’s Equality PartyWhy is a gender audit of the school curriculum well overdue?

Following these four provocations, there will be plenty of time for debate and discussion before the break. After tea and cake, Audacity Chutzpah will give us a whizz through herstory, from the Suffragette era to bang up to date. She will be followed by updates from Somerset performers who have been making work focussing around diversity.

It promises to be a full and rich afternoon.  We do hope (whether male or female) you can come along!
