New writing is at the heart of Theatre Somerset and Take Art is developing a number of writing projects.

The Rain has Voices by Shiona Morton is the first Play for Somerset. This project, developed in partnership with Strode Theatre (Street) and The Brewhouse Theatre (Taunton), seeks to commission new plays from Somerset-based writers.

The Rain has Voices is a powerful and absorbing drama about family, memory and new beginnings. Set on the Somerset Levels in midsummer 2008, this is a ghost story for the future. There is incessant rain. As the water rises is releases memories from the land.

The Rain Has Voices tour is going really well with fantastic reviews from Press and audiences alike. See some comments below or download reviews from both Somerset Sound and Gay Pirrie Weir from the Fosseway Magazine.

'The performance was extremely professional and the way the scenes changed and were interwoven was quite extraordinary.'

'..we never dreamt we would be so overwhelmed. You didn't lose us for one second - your acting was second to none, you bought those characters into our lives, the pace, set, effects were really lovely - powerful - simple raw - great!'
