| Working
with shadows is an incredibly exciting way of exploring colour,
form and narrative. The OHPs instantly enlarge images, which
are projected onto screens, walls and ceilings. This allows
the children to see their work from a different perspective
and share it with others. They can step into the pictures
themselves and become part of the stories they are telling,
and because the large images are so immediate the children
can concentrate on playing with them and develop them easily.
In
a workshop the children create images using a variety of techniques
including drawing, cutting and collage. Both staff and children
can introduce themes that they are currently working with
and use the workshop as a way of exploring them further. As
well as being a great vehicle for self-expression and the
development of narrative, working with light and shadow can
also increase children's understanding of the physical world.
