Signposts was a project funded by the NHS to research and develop dance activities across Somerset, using dance to help promote active lifestyles particularly in areas of deprivation.

The Signposts project ran from August 2010-March 2011. As part of the project we piloted four new regular dance groups focusing on areas of high deprivation, these included men dancing and people over 50. We also worked with Dance South West and the Foundation of Community Dance to provide training opportunities for community dance artists.

During the project, Take Art initiated lots of exciting networking opportunities for communities, dancers and for those working to promote healthier lifestyles. These included social dance parties and group trips to watch professional dance.

Signposts was also about directing people to the best UK dance resources available. One of these is the new Dance Champions website, designed for all those wishing to promote their dance classes or find out about participatory dance in Somerset and across the UK.
