Step Change is a two and a half year dance and health project for adults, young adults and young people, including a specific strand for older people and another for adults with learning disability. It has been designed to address some of the issues identified by a range of papers - local, regional and national - in terms of the government's drive towards a fitter, more active, healthier nation. |

The project seeks to: |
| |
Increase and widen participation among a range of participants in a healthy, creative, physical activity
|
| |
|
| |
Empower these participants to take more control in determining their own healthier life style choices through diet and exercise |
| |
|
| |
Provide training at a variety of levels for teachers, volunteers, young adults plus a range of dance practitioners to continue with the work once the project is complete, as part of a comprehensive exit strategy |
| |
|
| |
Develop a peer mentoring scheme, which will allow for further training of participants and volunteers to continue with the work after the life of the project |
| |
|
| |
Programme a series of performances in community venues in order to advocate for the benefits of the of the project and recruit more participants |
| |
|
| |
Hold an end-of-project celebratory event, in which all participants from the range of ages involved, can come together to showcase their achievements to the wider public |
| |
|
| |
Disseminate the benefits accrued from the project through a process of independent documentation and evaluation |

For young people Step Change will: |

- Work in schools and colleges
- Form new out-of-school youth dance groups
- Provide opportunities for performance and training
