  Little Big Bang

  The Little Big Bang Positions
A ground breaking action research project linking Children Centres and Arts Promoters in Somerset.

Starting in 2009 and running over two years, Little Big Bang aims to embed artists as Lead Creative Practitioners into 8 Children Centres across Somerset. Little Big Bang is focusing on hard to reach areas and rural environments with a specific aim to bring together Children Centres and Arts Promoters to raise the level of Early Years creativity and provision provided to Early Years within the arts in Somerset.

Research is central to the project and this is being undertaken by Dr Susan Young of the University of Exeter.

Little Big Bang is led and managed by Take Art, supported by the Somerset Arts Promoters Thrive project and also funded by Somerset County Council and Paul Hamlyn Foundation.

Northern Constellation - Francesca Dunford

Francesca is a Theatre Practitioner using music and movement as stimulus in her sessions. Her work spreads over the South West community as well as performing with two professional performance companies; Clockwork Moth (Puppetry) and Brown Paper Packages (Dance).

Working with physical storytelling, imagination, games and puppetry, her playful approach to community work accesses creative intrigue from the participants. She has a child-initiated approach that informs the development for the work.

By working with a process-based approach, the adventures and explorations expand the child's learning and ensures that each individual child can access their imagination through their own means, supported and encouraged by introducing different materials, new ideas and exciting Theatrical play.

  Central Constellation - Richard Tomlinson
Richard has worked as an artist and participatory arts worker with a wide range of community groups. He achieves a great rapport with the children and will create some exciting work with them.

  Southern Constellation – Hannah Lefeurve
Hannah is an experienced dance and movement artist, with a particular flair for Early Years work.

Hannah uses a variety of starting points, which encourage the children’s ideas, in exploring dance, movement, creativity and the imagination. Hannah’s sessions are rich, colourful and multi-sensory. Children may be transported into imaginary worlds and taken on exciting adventures as they explore using their own bodies and movement. On magic carpets to far off lands, under the sea, into outer space, up in a hot air balloon, out into the garden or simply exploring moving together in the moment. Hannah uses a variety of music and stimuli and involves children in making their own sensory spaces.

Hannah is delighted to be working on the Little Big Bang project and hopes to become an EYPS Practitioner during this time. Hannah choreographs for her co-company Brown Paper Packages, which specialises in dance work for Early Years. The company recently created a piece for 3-5 year olds, entitled Favourite Strings, which was shown at Made in Somerset 2009. They hope to tour Favourite Strings later in 2009.
